Malcolm Elliott gears up Chevin Cycles for Marie Curie’s Power Peloton
Press release published
Over twenty keen local cyclists from Otley, Skipton and Harrogate were treated to an appearance from renowned cyclist Malcolm Elliott at Chevin Cycles, Otley on Wednesday evening. Malcolm was interviewed by cycling commentator Anthony McCrossan, and spoke to the invited ensemble about his own experiences of cycling the Tour de France in 1987 and 1988. He encouraged everyone to create their own “personal euphoria” and take up the gauntlet of cycling Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Power Peloton on 5 July. The Peloton is a gruelling cycling challenge which offers 25 people the chance to ride on Stage One of the Tour de France, just hours before cycling legends such as Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome, all in aid of Marie Curie. Marie Curie is the official charity partner of the Tour de France Grand Départ. Mike Hughes, who’s already signed up for the Peloton, added in his own support: “How often are you going to be able to do an event like this in your life? Only once. People should meet a Marie Curie nurse and understand the great work that they do. They are incredible, and they’ve really spurred me on with my fundraising and training.” The event was organised by Marie Curie and Sanjai Bhatia, Director of Chevin Cycles, who said: “It was brilliant for our loyal customers to be inspired by Malcolm’s achievements and Mike’s enthusiasm. We were delighted to host Marie Curie, and to encourage people to take part in the Peloton and raise money for a charity that supports so many people in the local area.” For those who don’t fancy donning their lycra for the gruelling 190km Power Peloton, attendees also heard how they could host their own Grand Départy! Anyone can get involved, whether it’s getting on your bike, turning your town yellow, or speaking French for the day… the possibilities for having fun and fundraising along the way are endless. Anyone can organise their own Grand Départy event – simply visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/tourdefrance or call 0845 052 4184 to request your fundraising pack and resources.
