Business leaders pledge to ‘Pay for a Day’
Press release published
Marie Curie has launched a new initiative to help fund care at the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, backed by business leaders including Hamilton Park Racecourse’s Vivien Kyles, Tilney Bestinvest’s Paul Frame and Alan and Margaret Wiseman. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to donate or fundraise £6,479 to ‘Pay for a Day’ supporting people with terminal illnesses by covering the running costs of the hospice at Springburn for an entire day of their choice. Alan and Margaret Wiseman, explain why they’ve chosen to support the hospice on the day of their wedding anniversary, the 6 November: “Early in 2014, Marie Curie stepped in to help care for our Aunt Mary as she approached the end of her life. For a crucial period over two weeks, the care the nurses provided daily was incredible, both for her and the whole family. Marie Curie supported us at an extremely difficult time, and we are so thankful for all their help. “When we first visited the hospice, we saw first-hand what a remarkable place it is. We are delighted to support Pay for a Day and have chosen 6 November in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We hope that you will join us in paying for a day, too, either personally or through your business. You’ll be helping families across Glasgow at their time of greatest need.” Vivien Kyles, Pay for a Day Ambassador and Chief Executive, Hamilton Park Racecourse has chosen the 23 September as the day her team reached their £19,000 fundraising target through a series of sponsored challenges and fundraisers. She said: “Paying for a day is a great way for people like me to do their bit. We can’t all become nurses, and we might not have the time or inclination for sponsored challenges. But we can use our contacts and business acumen to raise money to support this wonderful hospice, and help the nurses do what really counts.” Paul Frame, Managing Director of Tilney Bestinvest said; “At Tilney Bestinvest, staff and their families have been supporting Marie Curie in Glasgow and across Scotland for many years. A number of us have even received personal support from the charity. Pay for a Day is a really impactful way to support Marie Curie. Our staff are fundraising to pay for a whole day of care on Mother’s Day, 15 March 2015. This is a demonstrable way to show our support for the charity and say a big thank you to all their staff.” Paul Cockram, Marie Curie Partnerships Manager said: “We hope that businesses will be inspired to pay for a day of care in our hospice and pick a special day to pay for, whether that’s an anniversary or important date for the company. Whatever day you choose, you’ll be making a real difference to people with terminal illnesses and their families.” 2014 is the 60th year that Marie Curie has provided care to the people of Glasgow and the surrounding areas. The Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, provides expert care and the best possible quality of life, totally free, for people with terminal illnesses and vital support for their families. A Pay for a Day donation will fund nursing care, meals for patients and a host of day care services for a 24 hour period. Every year, the hospice cares for 1,400 people through its 30 in-patient beds and day and outpatient service.
