Celebrities to run London Marathon for Marie Curie
Press release published
Actors Sean Biggerstaff and Andy Newton-Lee will be donning their trainers to run the Virgin Money London Marathon 2014 on 13 April to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The pair will be joining hundreds of other Marie Curie supporters taking on the gruelling 26.2 mile circuit to help the charity care for more people with a terminal illness and provide vital support for families and carers. Sean Biggerstaff, who played the character Oliver Wood in the Harry Potter films, says; “I’ve had loved ones cared for at the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow and seen first-hand the amazing work the charity does caring for someone with a terminal illness as well as their family. I wanted to give something back and I’ve always wanted to run a marathon so I decided to go for it. It’s my first ever marathon so I’m finding the training hard but the thought of raising much needed funds for Marie Curie and crossing that finish line motivates me to keep going.” Sean is being joined by Andy Newton-Lee who is best known for playing Robbie Flynn in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. Andy is a keen runner and this is his 11th marathon, and his second time running for Marie Curie, after supporting the charity in 2010. - ENDS - |

Marie Curie is the leading charity providing care to people with any terminal illness in their own homes or in one of its nine hospices. The charity is also a leader in research into the best ways of caring for people with a terminal illness. In addition to this the charity designs and advises on end of life services and works to ensure that the best possible care and patient choice is at the heart of commissioning end of life care across the UK. All Marie Curie services are completely free of charge. Around 70% of the charity’s income comes from donations with the balance of funds coming from the NHS.
