Comment on new cancer strategy for Northern Ireland
Comment published
Responding to the announcement that the Department of Health is to commission a new cancer strategy for Northern Ireland, Joan McEwan, Head of Policy and Public Affairs for Marie Curie Northern Ireland, said:
We warmly welcome today’s announcement. Survival rates have improved significantly in recent years but cancer is still the leading cause of death in Northern Ireland, and it is critical that local patients with a terminal cancer diagnosis are able to access timely and holistic care and support at the end of life. We hope the new Cancer Strategy will provide an opportunity for statutory and voluntary sector service providers to work even more closely together to make this a reality for as many people living and dying with cancer as possible.
