Marie Curie care for terminally ill people praised
An independent regulator has awarded the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, its highest ever rating.
In the Healthcare Improvement Scotland report published today (Wednesday 5 July 2017) the hospice at Fairmilehead was awarded four “Excellent” ratings and one “Very Good” rating. In three areas the rating has improved from Very Good in 2016 to Excellent in 2017, these areas are: environment, staffing and management and leadership. The results follow an unannounced inspection across two days in May. The ratings awarded are:
- Quality Theme 0 – Quality of information: 6 – Excellent
- Quality Theme 1 – Quality of care and support: 5 – Very good
- Quality Theme 2 – Quality of environment: 6 – Excellent
- Quality Theme 3 – Quality of staffing: 6 – Excellent
Quality Theme 4 – Quality of management and leadership: 6 – Excellent
The Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, offers specialist care and support in a friendly, welcoming environment to people living with a terminal illness and their families in West Lothian, Midlothian and South Edinburgh. Community services also offer care to people in their own homes.
Hilary Ford Hospice Manager at the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, said: “I’m so proud of the team for the high standard of care and support they’re achieving every day for the families that need us. We’re collaborating much more closely than ever before with partners including NHS Lothian and St Columba’s Hospice, working together to ensure that we reach more people regardless of their diagnosis.”
