The FA back Kammy’s EURO 2012 song for Marie Curie

Press release published

The FA has confirmed today that they are backing Marie Curie Ambassador, Chris Kamara, in his bid to spur England on to UEFA EURO 2012 success with his new 'Unbelievable' anthem in aid of Marie Curie.

Sing 4 England, which will be released on 3 June through Mcasso Digital’s 12th Man Records, has been chosen by the FA as the official UEFA EURO 2012 anthem. The charity single aims to provide fans with a catchy anthem to inspire the England team in Poland and Ukraine this summer and raise money for Marie Curie at the same time.

Kammy has joined forces with Mike Connaris, who wrote the 'Blue Day' anthem for Chelsea FC featuring Suggs from Madness and other football songwriters, to produce the song. The football fans’ favourite is donating 100% of his proceeds from the song to the charity, in memory of his mother Irene who was looked after by Marie Curie Nurses at home before she passed away.

Kammy said "I want to get the whole country singing for England, whilst
helping raise funds for Marie Curie, a cause very close to my heart. Everyone involved in making Sing 4 England have been brilliant in supporting the charity by donating a percentage of their proceeds to them too.

"The charity’s nurses looked after my mum at home and made it possible for her to remain there until she died, so I want to do all I can to get this to number one for the nurses!

"And if the fans get behind the cause, we could inspire England to win their first major trophy since 1966, and that’d be unbelievable!"

FA Group Commercial Director Stuart Turner said: "We are pleased to confirm we are backing Chris’ song as the official England EURO 2012 anthem.

"The FA decided not to commission a song this year but given the public and fans reaction to the "Unbelievable" anthem we are getting behind it.  In addition, 100 per cent of Chris' proceeds from the song are going to Marie Curie Cancer Care which is a great cause."

The charity is urging supporters to back the Facebook campaign to get Kammy to number one and to pre-order the song at iTunes to help him get to the top of the charts and raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie.*
