Further funding for end-of-life care welcomed

Press release published

Leading terminal illness charity Marie Curie has welcomed news of extra funding in the Welsh Government’s draft budget for 2017/18.

Labour and Plaid Cymru reached an agreement this week, to allow Welsh Government spending plans to go ahead – including a further £1 million spend on end of life care.

It means end-of-life care will receive £2 million of funding for 2017/18.

Marie Curie offers expert care, guidance and support to people living with any terminal illness and their families, to help them get the most of the time they have left.

Simon Jones, Director of Policy and Public Affairs for Marie Curie, welcomed the funding for end of life care.

“Our ageing population means more and more people are living with a terminal illness, often with more complex needs,” he said.

6,200* people per year in Wales are missing out on care and support while living with a terminal illness.

“We believe everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left,” said Mr Jones.

“Further funding from the Welsh Government for end of life care is very much welcomed to help achieve this aim.”
