Glasgow entrepreneur’s generous £50,000 donation
Press release published
John Watson OBE has donated £50,000 to the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, the largest single donation from an individual to the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, since the Big Build appeal in 2010. John presented the cheque to Dr Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care at the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow. John was inspired to donate to the hospice due to long-standing links with the charity. He is currently a member of the hospice Development Board, helping to raise funds and raise awareness of Marie Curie. Since 2002 John has also supported the charity by raising money for the £16.1 million Big Build appeal and donating free printing through his recently sold business, John Watson and Company Ltd. John said: “I’m delighted to have made this personal donation, which will go to helping care for people at the hospice.” Dr Collins said: “John’s generous donation of £50,000 will pay for the running of the hospice for a week. Over the past 12 years John’s dedication has benefitted hundreds of patients and we’re extremely grateful to him for his ongoing commitment to Marie Curie.” The Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow cares for approximately 1,400 terminally ill patients and their families every year. The hospice needs £5.3 million per annum to offer in-patient care, day patient services and community nursing. -ENDS- |
