Marie Curie responds to the Government’s Care Act Easement Guidance for Local Authorities

Marie Curie responds to the Government’s Care Act Easement Guidance for Local Authorities,  which will enable local authorities, for example to provide enhance support to those who are ill or in self-isolation, temporarily delay or reduce other care provision.

Scott Sinclair, Head of Policy and Public Affairs for Marie Curie, commented:

“Marie Curie is concerned about the unintended consequences of this new power. It could mean reduced access to local authority funded social care for people dying at home in places hit badly by Coronavirus. Access to social care reduces the number of emergency admissions to hospital for people with a terminal illness, so we’re urging local authorities not to deprioritise people who have terminal conditions during this period as this could seriously impact on the experience people have at the end of their lives and, of course, hospitals who will have to pick up the pieces.”
