Marie Curie appoints Dr Jane Collins as new chief executive

Press release published

Marie Curie Cancer Care has appointed Dr Jane Collins as its new chief executive.

She will join the charity on September 1 from Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she has been chief executive for more than 10 years.

Dr Collins will be taking over at Marie Curie from Tom Hughes-Hallett, who announced in January his decision to step down after 11 years in the post.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life care charity, with 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses caring for people in their own homes at the end of life. The charity also has nine hospices across the UK and conducts research into better care for the dying.

Commenting on Dr Collins’ appointment, chairman of Marie Curie’s trustees, John Varley, said:  “We are delighted Jane is joining us. She brings with her a deep understanding of the NHS, the commissioning landscape and the work of academic and research institutions.

“In addition, she has extensive experience of fundraising through combining her job of chief executive at Great Ormond Street Hospital with running the hospital’s charitable arm.”

Dr Collins said: “These are times of great change, challenge and opportunity for end of life care across the UK, and I am thrilled to be joining Marie Curie at such an exciting moment.

“Obviously I will be sad to be leaving Great Ormond Street Hospital, but I am ready for a new challenge.”
