Marie Curie appoints two senior Policy and Public Affairs roles in England and Wales

Marie Curie continues to invest in its newly formed Policy and Public Affairs directorate and has announced today (Monday) two new appointments for England and Wales. Phil McCarvill joined Marie Curie in May as Head of Policy and Public Affairs for England from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) where he was an Associate Fellow working on health, housing and equalities issues. Prior to joining IPPR, he was the Head of Public Sector Duties at the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality. He also has experience of working in local government and the NHS. Phil has written extensively on a range of issues including equalities, health, housing and electoral reform. Phil has a Ph.D. in Ethnic Relations from the University of Warwick. He will be supported in his new role by Scott Sinclair, Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager. Simon Jones has been appointed Head of Policy and Public Affairs for Wales and will take up his role next month. Simon started his career working for a news magazine in Wales before working as a Research Officer, first for the Transport and General Workers’ Union and then the Wales TUC. For 10 years the Chief Executive of the Wales Co-operative Centre which under his leadership became the largest such agency in the UK. In 2009 he joined the UK’s largest headhunting firm, Odgers Berndtson, heading up their public sector work in Wales. He became a Partner in 2010. Simon was the Chair of Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust for over six years and before that Chair of Bro Taf Health Authority. He first became involved in the NHS as a member of South Glamorgan Health Authority in 1989. Simon chaired the Commission which reviewed the National Assembly for Wales’ Voluntary Sector Scheme and was a member of the Council of Cardiff University. He has also presented two Radio Wales Series on fly fishing. He is also a former Charity Commission Board member. Leading the team is Imelda Redmond CBE, Director of Policy and Public Affairs, who joined the charity in November last year from Carers UK where she was Chief Executive.
