Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands launches Pay for a Day

Press release published

Pay for a Day, a new initiative to help fund care at the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands was launched at the charity’s annual Birmingham Brain Game last night (Thursday 31st October). Pay for a Day provides people with the unique opportunity to cover the running costs of the hospice for an entire day, by donating £7,321.

The Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands provides expert care and the best possible quality of life, totally free, for people with terminal illnesses and vital support for their families.  A Pay for a Day donation will fund nursing care, meals for patients and a host of day care services for a 24 hour period.

The new initiative is already being backed by local businesses and Marie Curie supporters including Pertemps recruitment firm and Hospice Patron, Sir Adrian Cadbury and Marie Curie is hoping other local businesses from across the West Midlands will sign up to Pay for a Day.

Fabian French, Director of Fundraising at Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “We are so excited to launch this initiative and hope that local businesses can help us by paying for a day of care in our hospice. You can choose a special day to pay for, whether that’s a birthday, anniversary or important date for your company. Whatever day you choose, you’ll be making a real difference to people with terminal illnesses and their families.”

Tim Watts, Lifetime President of Pertemps made the inaugural Pay for a Day donation and has chosen January 1st 2014 as the day they will pay for. Tim said: “As a supporter of Marie Curie for a number of years, it gives me great pleasure for Pertemps to become the inaugural sponsor of the Pay for a Day initiative here in the Midlands. The hospice is doing a wonderful job in supporting families across Birmingham and Warwickshire who are affected by terminal illnesses and I am delighted to be able to show our support and gratitude by making this donation."

Pay for a Day Ambassador Geoff Percy and Chairman of H.Bronnley UK Ltd and Orion Media said: “I know what an extraordinary place the new hospice is and I think the people of the West Midlands should feel proud as it could not have been built without their support.  I have chosen to take part in Pay for a Day as a personal recognition of the ongoing funding requirements for the hospice, which is full of life and the standards of care are incredible. Everyone who works there takes it upon themselves to make each day the best it can possibly be for every patient and their families so I want to call on others to join me in paying for a day.”

The Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands, located on Marsh Lane in Solihull opened in January this year and it is one of the newest and most advanced facilities in the UK. The hospice provides expert end of life care to patients with any terminal illness and cares for more than 2,000 people from the local community each year. This care and support costs £7,321 each and every day.

  • A 30 per cent increase in counselling and emotional support services to help take away patients’ fears and enable bereaved family members to cope with everything they’re going through.
  • A base for the Marie Curie Nursing Service for the whole of the West Midlands, ensuring we can fully understand and meet patients’ needs, whether they are cared for at home or in our hospice.
  • The new hospice’s services will be available to support people with terminal illness and their families, across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
