Marie Curie invests £2.5million in addition to Government funding for end of life care pilots

Marie Curie Cancer Care, a leading end of life care provider, has announced it will invest £2.5million in addition to the Department of Health’s Palliative Care Funding Review pilots announced today. Read the full announcement on the Department of Health website The Department of Health has said it will fund eight pilots at a cost of £1.8million. Marie Curie Cancer Care is now reviewing these pilot areas and planning where to invest further to find innovative solutions to the enormous strains on our health service, and growing need for people to be supported with palliative and end of life care. Marie Curie Cancer Care is working to ensure people are supported to spend their final days in their place of choice, with equal and fair access to services across the UK. Thomas Hughes-Hallett, Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care and co-author of the Palliative Care Funding Review said, “Marie Curie is passionate about providing high quality end of life care. There are enormous strains and calls on our health service. With an aging population it is crucial that we find innovative ways of supporting more people. We welcome these pilots and are ready to invest up to £2.5million in them to seek creative solutions to these growing issues. “As a leading end of life care provider we want to use our resources to enhance the pilots by testing the wider recommendations of the Palliative Care Funding Review – assessment, case management and co-ordination. It is these elements that are vital to delivering services that give people the high quality service that they deserve.
