Marie Curie responds to New Philanthropy Capital report published today

David Shaw, Head of Service Development for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said:

“A report out today, by New Philanthropy Capital on how charities are being affected by the changes to the way public services are being commissioned, highlights Marie Curie’s positive approach to collaboration and partnership working.

"Marie Curie has been working for many years with NHS commissioners, managers and providers to invest in innovative, joined up end of life care services for people with terminal illness and their families.

"A good example is the charity’s Delivering Choice Programme, which involves Marie Curie bringing together different organisations to develop a shared view of need, identify gaps in services and then work collaboratively to deliver the best end of life care services to close those gaps. It works because all partners have a shared goal and passion - getting end of life care right for people who may only have weeks or days left.

"As the report acknowledges, it’s a time of great change for charities and the commissioning and economic landscapes are unsure. But the great thing about charities – large and small – is that we can work together to pool expertise and take the risks needed to innovatively meet the needs of patient and families and make savings at the same time."

Marie Curie is highlighted in the report in a case study around collaboration and partnership working.
