Marie Curie responds to social care tax rise

Mark Jackson, Policy and Public Affairs Manager at the end of life charity, Marie Curie, said:
"On its own, today's announcement of a rise in National Insurance contributions is not going to fix our social care system. One hundred thousand more people will die each year by 2040 – most of whom will need social care in the community. Will there be care homes to support them, how will chronic workforce shortages be fixed, how will the NHS integrate with social care so people get the right care where and when they need it?
"If it doesn't address these tough questions, the Government risks leaving thousands of people living, and dying, without the care and support they need. Addressing the challenges the system faces needs real reform, not a sticking plaster."
