London Assembly Health Committee’s investigation into end of life care

Comment published

In response to the findings of the London Assembly Health Committee’s recent investigation into end of life care in London, Scott Sinclair, Head of Policy & Public Affairs for Marie Curie, said:

“The London Assembly findings chime with what we know about end of life care in London. Despite pockets of excellent provision, more must be done to address the variation in services and care provided across London, to ensure that people get the support they need and deserve, no matter where they live, the condition they have,  or their age or background.

“It is particularly worrying that fewer than half of Health and Wellbeing Strategies in London mention end of life care. With such unacceptable variation in care across London, it is vital that local health and wellbeing boards, along with clinical commissioning groups, tackle this problem now. Without such focus, the most vulnerable people in our capital city will continue to miss out on the care they need."
