Marie Curie response to Scottish Government announcement on Strategic Framework for Palliative Care
Comment published
The Scottish Government has announced details of its programme for Government which includes a commitment to provide £3.5 million in funding between 2015-19 to support the Strategic Framework for Palliative Care, published later in 2015. Commentating on today’s announcement Richard Meade Marie Curie Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Scotland said: “Marie Curie welcomes the Scottish Government announcement that the promised Strategic Framework for Action on Palliative and End of Life Care will be published in December. The announcement of £3.5 million in funding to support this over the next 4 years is very positive and much needed. “We only get one chance to get the care right for someone who is terminally ill and approaching the end of life. We need to ensure that everyone living with a terminal illness, regardless of condition, gets the care they need. Nearly 11,000 people in Scotland miss out on palliative care every year and this needs to change. We hope that this Framework delivered with real resource will lead to everyone who needs palliative care getting it when they need it.” -Ends- |
