Marie Curie's response to the Tell Us Once service expansion

Comment published

Following the announcement from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) that Tell Us Once (the Government service where bereaved relatives only have to notify the local authority once about the loss of a loved one) has been expanded to include more services, Imelda Redmond, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Marie Curie, said:

“The expansion of the Tell Us Once service is good news especially because it will give recently bereaved families help through what is a very difficult time.

“There are many things that need to be considered when a family member dies, such as confirming the death, funeral arrangements and dealing with their estate, to name but a few. Informing agencies such as the DVLA or cancelling a passport are often the last thing they want to think about. A service that does all of this with a single phone call will be a huge help.

“But more needs to be done to ensure this service is available to all who need it. We hope this service is further extended so that everyone across the country who needs this is able to make use of it.”

If you have recently suffered a bereavement and are unsure about what you need to do, visit the Marie Curie website, where there is information to help you as well as signposting to local support services.
