Marie Curie Strengthens Leadership Team in Bradford
Press release published
The UK's leading end of life charity Marie Curie has announced the appointment of a new senior clinical nurse leader at its hospice on Maudsley Street, Bradford.
Sue Hogston from Otley has taken up the role of Head of Nursing & Quality, with responsibility for oversight and leadership of all nursing staff within the Bradford hospice, as well as for quality across the Yorkshire region.
Sue joins with over 35 years' experience as a Registered Nurse, most recently working as Care Transformation lead for Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust in York and Director of Operations for a mental health hospital. Prior to this, Sue held various roles at Sue Ryder, including Head of Clinical Quality, Acting Director of Operations and Chief Nurse.
Commenting on her appointment, Sue said: "A key driver for wanting to work for Marie Curie was the opportunity to make a difference and develop the next cohort of nurses. The work is very important, and we have a limited opportunity to get things right for people at end of life.
"With our patients, we can't change the outcomes but we can help people come to terms with what's happening and we can offer families the opportunity to be a son or a daughter again, rather than a care giver as we undertake those caring elements. We also need to be mindful that these duties come with an emotional price so making sure that our workforce is really supported is paramount to me.
"Recruiting to the in-patient unit is another of my key priorities and I'd urge anyone who is looking for a role in healthcare to consider joining our team. You don't have to be experienced in palliative care – we'll make sure that you receive comprehensive training and are fully supported throughout your career development, so you can be the best you can be.
"I'm thrilled to be part of the fantastic team at Marie Curie and I'm looking forward to making a positive difference to patient care and experience"
Due to staffing shortages which impacted its ability to deliver specialist nursing care around the clock, the Marie Curie Hospice, Bradford temporarily paused admissions to its in-patient unit in November 2021 while it recruits more staff. All other hospice services are open as usual.
The Marie Curie Hospice, Bradford currently has vacancies across its nursing, admin, and bereavement service teams. To find out more about the roles available and the virtual recruitment open day taking place on Thursday 13th January, visit: mariecurie.org.uk/jobs/bradford-jobs
