Marie Curie’s response to social care reform announcement

Marie Curie’s response to Health and Social Care Secretary’s announcement on social care reform.
Simon Jones, Director Policy and Public Affairs for Marie Curie said:
“While today’s announcement is encouraging, this reform is well overdue and as our new analysis shows, the number of dying people being admitted to A&E is unacceptable and unsustainable. If this isn’t remedied as a matter of urgency, more and more people will be spending time trapped in hospital at the end of their lives, when they don’t want or need to be there. This is the true enormity and human impact of “stalled social care reforms””.
“The stakes are high for Jeremy Hunt. Right now, people at the end of life and their loved ones are being failed by a system under immense pressure. Tens of thousands are being rushed repeatedly to hospital and this figure is set to spiral out of control in the coming years. The situation in England is bleak and this will only get worse if the Government fails to provide a properly funded and coordinated health and social care system.”
