Mecca Bingo team enter Great North Run

Press release published

More than 90 team members from Mecca clubs across the country will be taking part in the Great North Run this Sunday 16 September, in a bid to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The runners, who will all be dressed as superheroes, hope to raise over £50,000 for the charity which will help provide 2,500 hours of free Marie Curie nursing care and support for terminally ill people and their families.

Fabian French, Director of Fundraising at Marie Curie  said:

"This is the biggest team we’ve ever had from a single organisation take part in an event. It’s great to see just how committed the Mecca team members have been in supporting Marie Curie and I wish them all the best of luck on race day.

"Mecca team members have done a fantastic job already in raising money for our charity.  Since the start of the partnership in 2010 all the clubs have raised more than £500,000.

"Every £20 raised will help to provide an hour of Marie Curie nursing care so we’re extremely grateful to the Mecca teams."

Paul Heath, manager of Mecca Gateshead, said:

"It’s lovely to see our team members come together in support of a common cause and they’re good sports for getting into the superhero theme for this year.  All the runners have been training hard and some of the team who would never have thought about running are now clocking up more than 10 miles in their training.

"I’m sure all their hard work in their training will pay off for Sunday’s race as they deserve it, having been so committed to raising money for such a fantastic cause.  All the runners should be extremely proud of themselves."
