Marie Curie reacts to the new National Framework for Continuing Health Care implementation in Wales, which has been announced this week.
Lowri Griffiths, Head of Policy and Public Affairs Wales at Marie Curie said: "Marie Curie welcomes that the Welsh Government will work with Local Health Boards and partners to ensure the 2021 Continuing Health Care Framework is fully understood and implemented correctly. It is also imperative that they deliver on their commitment to review the CHC Performance Framework to ensure effective governance and accountability.
"For people approaching the end of their lives, CHC is vital. When done right, it helps people to die in their place of choice, with the people they love. Correctly implemented CHC also helps those who are bereaved find comfort, knowing their loved one's final wishes were fulfilled.
"Ultimately, we would expect this new framework and planned new governance arrangements to help reduce inequity and ensure that those who need care and support via this process be given timely access to enable them to have the best end of life experience."
