Power NI partners with Marie Curie to support the Great Daffodil Appeal
Press release published
Northern Ireland’s leading palliative care charity, Marie Curie has partnered with local energy supplier, Power NI to officially launch its Great Daffodil Appeal that will run throughout the month of March. The Great Daffodil Appeal (GDA) is Marie Curie’s flagship fundraising campaign and has been operating for more than 30 years across the UK. The first Great Daffodil Appeal (GDA) took place in 1986, and since then the campaign has gone from strength-to-strength, raising more than £73m. Last year in Northern Ireland alone GDA raised more than £200,000 which equates to 10,000 Marie Curie nursing hours. To help support GDA, Marie Curie is organising a number of collections in the Northern Ireland, including the main Belfast event that will take place on Saturday 19 March 2016. All the money raised will be used to deliver and develop vital services to people, and their families living with any terminal illness, either in their own homes or at the charity’s Belfast hospice. Commenting on this year’s GDA campaign, Anne McRoberts, Fundraising Manager, Marie Curie said, “Our GDA campaign has always been well supported in Northern Ireland and I know this year will be no different. Our collections points are going well, but we still need some help filling the main Belfast collection on Saturday 19 March, so, if anyone is interested in volunteering and hour or two of their time then we’d love to hear from you. “Supporting GDA couldn’t be easier…you could host a bake sale, arrange a work dress-down day, host a quiz or simply make a donation at one of our collection points and wear your daffodil throughout March. By supporting the campaign you’ll be helping people, and their families in Northern Ireland that are living with a terminal illness.” The Northern Ireland Great Daffodil Appeal will, this year, receive corporate backing from Power NI. Power NI staff nominated Marie Curie as their charity partner for 2015 /2016. . The company and its team has been supporting Marie Curie by organising fundraising activity and getting involved in a number of the charity’s events, including the GDA. Commenting on the Power NI partnership, Lorraine Anthony from Power NI said, “This is an exciting partnership for us and we’re putting our energy in to supporting the Great Daffodil Appeal and hope that as many of our customers as possible join us in helping Marie Curie. This is something that is close to our hearts as Marie Curie has helped our colleagues. Working with Marie Curie has been a pleasure as they are such lovely people and it’s easy to see how they help light up lives at every stage.” To find out how you can Get Behind the Daffodil visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/daffodil or call the Marie Curie fundraising team on 028 9088 2060 -ENDS- |
