Prawn Cocktail hailed as Britain’s favourite retro dish
Press release published
Prawn Again! Prawn cocktail has been hailed as the nation’s favourite retro dish by one in three Britons (34%) in a new survey. The much-maligned shellfish starter pipped Black Forest gateaux (30%) and trifle (30%) to the top spot, in a survey conducted by ComRes for the charity Marie Curie*. However, Brits are not as fond of fondue as they once were, with only 8% choosing the 70s dinner party staple among their top three favourite retro foods. People were asked to choose from a selection of classic retro dishes including duck a l’Orange, beef bourguignon and chicken kiev. Actress Alison Steadman is supporting ‘Dinner Down Memory Lane’ and is no stranger to retro food, having starred as Beverley in the cult 70’s play ‘Abigail’s Party’. Talking about prawn cocktail she said: “It’s a classic from the 70’s. You can’t go wrong with it. “Retro food seems to be everywhere at the moment and getting together for a dinner party is always good fun. So combine the two, and host your own retro-inspired dinner party for Marie Curie. “Revisit those classic recipes or surprise your guests by putting a contemporary twist on some old favourites. There’s nothing like a bit of nostalgia to make you feel good.” The money raised from each dinner party will help Marie Curie Nurses to provide care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families.
