Comment on the publication of new Universal Principles for Advance Care Planning in England
Julie Pearce, Marie Curie Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Quality and Caring Services, said: "As the UK's end of life charity, we know that planning ahead is an important part of ensuring that our wishes are respected and grieving loved ones aren't left with lingering doubts about what the person would have wanted and better prepared for life without them.
"The new advance care planning principles are a step forward and create an opportunity for improved conversations about what matters most to people about their future care. While this is incredibly important, we must also understand and meet the holistic needs of a person, which means focussing support around what makes life good for them. Working with our colleagues at the Royal College of GPs, Marie Curie is committed to embedding these new principles into practice through the Daffodil Standards – a well-recognised, evidence-based framework that promotes a holistic, compassionate, and person-centred approach to care and support."
