Responding to the latest figures, Sam Royston, Director of Policy and Research at Marie Curie said:

"The figures show that the number of deaths in private homes remains significantly in excess of the five-year average. In our Better End of Life Survey, Marie Curie found that three quarters of bereaved carers whose loved one died at home didn't get all the care and support they needed, and nearly two thirds said that pain wasn't fully managed. The scale of this silent crisis highlights how critical it is to create a sustainable long-term funding model to support people reaching the end of life in the community.

"It is absolutely vital that the Government learn from these figures and invest in community support in our health and social care system, to ensure that dying people and their carers are always getting the support they need."
