Response to Scotland free personal care

Comment published

Commenting on today's lodging of a Member's Bill in the Scottish Parliament to extend free personal care to people aged under 65, Susan Lowes, Marie Curie Policy & Public Affairs Manager Scotland said:

“Regardless of age, all personal care services should be available and free to people living with a terminal illness. Terminal illness does not just affect people aged 65 and over and this Member’s Bill clarifies that everyone deserves access to services, which we know isn’t currently consistent across Scotland. We’ll be urging the Scottish Government to ensure that care is given from the point of need and not just the last six months of life. Terminal illnesses do not follow a timeline and it’s crucial that any change in policy also considers that people can be living with a terminal illness for weeks, months and years, with varying levels of support needed.”
