Marie Curie Responds to Winter Fuel Payments announcement

Sam Royston, Executive Director of Policy and Research at Marie Curie, said:

"We welcome the government's decision to reconsider access to the winter fuel payment for many of the pensioners who lost entitlement last year, but this is no help at all to terminally ill people of working age who have never been entitled, even if living in poverty, just because they're dying too young.

"Every year 128,000 people die in fuel poverty in the UK, struggling to heat their homes or run vital medical equipment. We are calling on the government to provide everyone living with a terminal illness with the Winter Fuel Payment, regardless of their age."
