Public Health Priorities Scotland

Comment published

In response to today's Public Health Priorities for Scotland publication, Susan Lowes Marie Curie Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Scotland said:

Marie Curie is disappointed that today’s Public Health Priorities for Scotland document published by the Scottish Government did not take the opportunity to include dying, death and bereavement as a public health priority. For too long, as a society, we have not been prepared to talk about these issues. Not only can this impact on the quality of life for those living with a terminal illness and their families and carers, but the lack of planning that goes with it can result in costly, unnecessary hospital admissions and long stays in hospital. We need to encourage more open and honest conversations about dying, death and bereavement.
