Thomas Hughes-Hallett to retire as Chief Executive of Marie Curie

Press release published

After 12 years’ service, Thomas Hughes-Hallett is to retire as Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care. He will hand over to a new Chief Executive by the end of the year.

Tom wishes to devote time to encouraging more people to give and people to give more. This follows the Philanthropy Review, which he chaired last year.

John Varley, Chair of Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “Under Tom’s leadership, Marie Curie has prospered and developed. Now, around 10,000 more patients and families benefit from its nursing care at home every year than in 2000, when he joined the charity.

"The Delivering Choice Programme, launched in 2004, has helped transform the face of end of life care in Britain. I am delighted to say that Tom has agreed to continue to serve Marie Curie Cancer Care on a voluntary basis.

"The Council of Marie Curie will recommend to the Annual General Meeting in September that Tom be appointed Vice President.  In this role, he will provide particular support to the Charity in strengthening further our links with key stakeholders, including major donors, health services and government.”
