‘Thousands of cancer patients are still dying in pain'

Simon Jones, Director of Policy and Public Affairs for Marie Curie, said:

“Seeing a loved one dying in pain is a distressing experience and can have lasting effects on family and friends. Carers tell us that managing pain medication for loved ones at home at the end of life is a real challenge. Yet, despite the huge responsibility, family and friends often do not receive the support they need.

“More needs to be done to enable everyone to have better access to round-the-clock coordinated community and palliative care, as well as ensuring that carers get the support and training they need to help manage the pain of their loved ones.

“It is possible for pain to be managed at home when people have the right support in place.”
