The Tommy Godwin '100 for 100' Challenge
The Tommy Godwin Challenge sportive was set up in 2013 to honour the memory of 1948 Olympic cycling medallist Tommy Godwin who would've been 100 years old this year. Since then, the challenge has raised over £90,000 for the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands. To mark the anniversary of Tommy's 100th birthday later this year, the team hope to reach £100,000 by the end of September!
Sadly, this year's cycling challenge could not happen as planned due to the pandemic. But you can still get involved - take a look at this video for more information and some challenge inspiration!
The Tommy Godwin Challenge committee are asking you to support their '100 for 100' appeal in one of two ways:
1. Take on your own activity based around the number 100 and complete it by 20 September.
For example, you could cycle 100 miles in one go or over several rides, cycle for 100 minutes on the road or on a static bike, or cycle 100 circuits of 1 mile. Or, if you prefer, do something completely unrelated to cycling, such as walking, swimming, or baking, that has a connection to the number 100. Anything goes in our 100 for 100 challenge!
Once you have decided on your challenge, set up a Just Giving page selecting the Marie Curie West Midlands Hospice as the charity and the Tommy Godwin Challenge as the event. If you prefer, you can use the committee's Just Giving page.
2. Sponsor the team!
Your committee usually doesn’t get the opportunity to ride the official routes on the day, so the cyclists amongst us are putting our money where our mouths are and have set our own personal challenges in order to raise money for the hospice. More details and opportunities to sponsor us can be found on the Just Giving page .
The 2021 event will take place on 19 September 2021, and entries will open on 1 March 2021.
