Loch Ness Marathon FAQs

Event date

This marathon is being run on 01 October 2023.

What if I become injured and need to cancel my place?

You are entitled to a refund within 14 days of entering. After this time, the organiser will no longer give out refunds. As stated in the Loch Ness Marathon Organisers Terms and conditions of entry, they will deduct a £10.00 administration fee from all refunds.

Notice of withdrawal from the event must be communicated by emailing info@lochnessmarathon.com, clearly stating the desire to withdraw and putting the word WITHDRAWAL in the subject line of the email. Withdrawals will not be accepted by telephone. Participants can withdraw at any point prior to the race with no refund.

When will I receive my official race day information and race number?

Race numbers are allocated for all races after the entry closing date, and will be posted on our website. All runners will be informed of this and how to collect their race pack by email from the race organisers.

Marathon runners collect their race pack (including timing tag and baggage label) at pre-race registration on Saturday 30 September 2023 at Event Village, Bught Park, Inverness IV3 5SQ between 10am-6pm. Please ensure you bring photo ID with you.

I can't make the marathon registration on the Saturday, can I register on the day?

If you can't make the registration on the Saturday, please email the race organisers at info@lochnessmarathon.com

How do I get to the marathon start?

All marathon runners are transported by bus to the marathon start from Inverness Ice Centre on Bught Drive, Inverness IV3 5SR. This is a 10-minute walk from the Event Village. Please arrive between 7-7:30am. Buses depart between 7:30-7:50am and the journey takes around one hour.

For those staying around Loch Ness, buses will pick up from various locations and pre-booking is essential. Please email info@lochnessmarathon.com by 26 September to book your place. Return transport is not provided to these locations after the race. Please visit the Loch Ness Marathon page for further infomation on pick up locations and times.

Will there be toilets and drinks stations?

Yes, there are portable toilets at the start and at every water station along the marathon route. There are also portable toilets at the Event Village and the bus departure point.

There are seven water stations along the marathon course and water will be provided in 330ml recyclable plastic bottles. There will be four gel stations along the marathon route providing High5 Energy Gels.

What will I receive as part of Team Marie Curie?

As part of the team you'll receive:

  • access to our Running Zone with training plans, tips and advice
  • regular e-newsletters with fundraising support and advice to help you smash your target
  • on-the-day support from our dedicated events team
  • a Marie Curie running vest or t-shirt
  • on-hand support from our fundraising team.

Where will Marie Curie be on the day?

We'll have a dedicated cheer point so we can support you as you take on the challenge of this incredible event. We are currently putting our on the day plans in place so please check out our webiste nearer the event date to find out more details.

What's the age limit?

Entrants must be 18 years or older on race day.

What should I do about travel and accommodation?

The best place to find information on transport and accommodation is on the Loch Ness Marathon website.
