Tour to support carers across Wales during Carers’ Week

Staff in the Marie Curie Caring for Carers in Wales project will be touring the country to support carers during Carers’ Week.

Project Manager Susan Court, accompanied by Project Workers Sarah Johnson and Sue Sugarman, will be travelling around Wales between Monday 6th June and Friday 10th June offering guidance and support to people caring for someone living with a terminal illness. The team’s aim will be to help build carer friendly communities across the country.

Here’s a rundown of where they will be going and what they will be doing during Carers’ Week:

Monday 6th June

  • ‘Thinking and Talking about the Future’ workshop in conjunction with the MND Association at the Oriel Hotel, St Asaph.

Tuesday 7th June

  • Attending carers’ event at Tregaron Memorial Hall, Tregaron organised by Ceredigion Crossroads with other organisations in attendance. The event will also feature afternoon tea with a theatre company who will be putting on a production highlighting carers’ stories.
  • Carers’ Café at the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff & the Vale

Wednesday 8th June

  • Talk with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board Palliative Care Team about the aims of the Caring for Carers in Wales project

Thursday 9th June

  • Young carers’ board game activities with school children in Aberystwyth
  • Swansea Carers’ Information Event at Scount & Guide HQ, Swansea
  • Information stand and promotion of Carers’ Café at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff

Friday 10th June

  • Young carers awareness meeting at St Cyres School, Penarth

Caring for Carers in Wales Project Lead Susan Court, said: “Each year Carers’ Week presents us with a topical time to spread the message of our work, and 2016 promises to be bigger and better than ever. We have a particularly busy schedule this year around Wales, and we hope that the interaction and engagement carried out on this tour will help to make a real difference to the lives of carers across the country.”
