New alliances can help improve end of life care

Marie Curie partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is all about working with GPs to help them improve the care they provide to patients at the end of life. In November and December last year, Dr Peter Nightingale, clinical lead for the partnership, held workshops around the country with commissioners to explore some of the issues they face around end of life care. The free events were held at six different locations including our West Midlands, Newcastle and Liverpool hospices. In the video above, Peter talks about the main themes that emerged from the roundtables. Peter said: ‘‘building on and discussing the RCGP’s guidance on commissioning has proved to be very useful to GPs and commissioners. They shared the challenges of serving their community, such as reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and twenty-four hour nursing care’’.
