McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness 2018 FAQs

Have a burning question about your upcoming event? These FAQs should cover everything you need to know. If there’s something we haven’t answered please feel free to get in touch at team@mariecurie.org.uk or on 0845 052 4184.

Event date

Mud Madness and Mini Mud Madness take place on 22 April 2018.

Where will Team Marie Curie be on the day?

We'll be there on the day from 8am to support you at the start/finish line at Foymore Lodge. Also, we'll be providing tea and coffee (Jaffa Cakes too of course!), so make sure you come and see us to celebrate your wonderful achievement.

Where can spectators see the race?

Bring your friends and family to come and support you! There are designated spectator areas where you can see many of the obstacles. These areas are clearly marked and we would ask you please stay within these designated areas and do not enter other sections of the course. The ground in these area is rough and potentially muddy, so think about appropriate footwear and make sure to dress for the weather.

The runners will be running along the entrance road to the site and this must be clear before the event can start so please stay off the road.

There is no parking on-site for spectators. Please park carefully on the A4 and walk down to the registration area. The A4 is a very busy road so do be extra careful when parking and leaving.

Where do I start and finish the race?

map of the courses will be uploaded to the Mud Madness website a couple of weeks before the event.

What if I become injured or need to cancel my place?

Please contact our supporter relations team at team@mariecurie.org.uk or on 0845 052 4184. There is more information about cancellations on the Mud Madness website .

When will I receive my official race day information and race number?

You will receive some tasty Jaffa Cakes goodies to eat when you sign up at registration and competitors in the Mud Madness event can collect their T-shirts then.

There will be medals for all finishers in both the Mini Mud Madness and Mud Madness events.

Given the nature of the event, as race numbers could get torn off in the mud, your race number will be written on your hand when you sign in. There will be a race clock at the finish line to show your time.

Please note if you are signed up to team Marie Curie, you can expect your running vest and fundraising pack to arrive two weeks after you've registered.

What should I wear?

You will receive your Marie Curie running vest to wear if you're over 16 and signed up to Team Marie Curie.

Mud Madness advise competitors to arrive in the clothing they intend to wear racing and bring a change of clothes, towel and some bin bags for the trip home. Cotton clothing is not advisable to race in as it will retain water from the ponds as you work through the rest of the course. Most competitors – if not in fancy dress! – opt for a base-layer style top and running shorts or leggings. Please change out of your wet clothes as soon as possible after you finish your event as many competitors find they get cold very quickly.

Mud Madness advise no football boots or spikes are to be worn on the course and to wear normal flat-soled training shoes or trail shoes. The best footwear is a pair of old trainers with nice tight laces.

Bins are provided on site to leave unwanted muddy clothes and shoes in.

Will there be toilets, showers and changing facilities?

There will be a number of toilets on site. Changing facilities are very limited and basic (marquees/tents). There are no bespoke showers, although as with previous years there will a basic system provided to help competitors wash off any excess dirt and mud. More information can be found the Mud Madness website
